After returning from vacation, Evelyn’s family realized something was terribly wrong. She was soon diagnosed with encephalitis—a dangerous inflammation of the brain that left her unable to walk, talk, or even respond. For weeks, Evelyn remained unresponsive in the hospital, enduring countless treatments while her family held onto hope, whispering promises of a kitten if she pulled through.

Her long road to recovery led her to Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, where she had to relearn everything. Against all odds and with the unwavering support of her care team, family, and the magic of animal therapy, Evelyn made an incredible comeback. Every milestone she reached surprised her doctors and delighted everyone around her.
